In 1954, Waterloo's Centennial year, no toll dialing was inaugurated between Waterloo and Cedar Falls and the two cities were given letter prefix exchanges (Waterloo's prefix was AD for Adams).
The 1954 City Directory shows some 5 digit and some 7 digit numbers.
